A decade ago, I turned a lifelong interest in learning about new topics into a career as a freelance writer. My specialty is health and medicine, but I also write stories about education and lifestyle and profiles for consumer, university, and trade publications.

Building on my former career as a nonprofit development professional, I also write grants and content for annual reports, newsletters, press releases, and websites.

My strength is unpacking complex material, especially in the medical field, and turning it into engaging and accessible storytelling for a variety of audiences.

Please take a look around my website to learn more about my work. Thanks so much for visiting!

TESTIMONIALS

“Jennifer Walker is the writer I go to when I am a trifle intimidated by the subject matter at hand. She knows how to research high-concept health and science stories with the mind of a lab rat, then turn the copy into the most accessible storytelling imaginable. She finds the human interest angles and emphasizes them while making the complex information readily understandable for lay people. Walker's a star--and a delight to work with time and again."

– Betsy Boyd, former editor-in-chief, Baltimore STYLE, lit editor, Baltimore Fishbowl

“Jennifer is a multi-faceted writer who has tackled stories for me on subjects ranging from music to medicine. She is reliable, detail-oriented, and very pleasant. I know that when I assign her a story, she will meet my deadline every time—and exceed my expectations with the copy she delivers."

– Sue DePasquale, editorial consultant

“Jennifer is an exceptional storyteller! I go back to her again and again. One of her strengths, I believe, is getting to the heart of every story and telling it in a way that is very moving to the readers. Her work is excellent, and she’s never let me down on a deadline."

– Kelly Brooks, former editor, Johns Hopkins Nursing magazine

“Jennifer is everything you could be looking for in a grant writing consultant: smart, knowledgeable, thorough and fast. Jennifer is an exceptional writer, a good listener and is very low maintenance. She is one of the better investments your organization can make.”

– Denver Frederick, director of development, The Salvation Army
